Laurie Woodruff - The Reliance
After graduating from University College Falmouth in June 2008 with a Ba (Hons.) degree in illustration, Laurie is a fully-fledged freelance illustrator.
Her recent work has covered subjects from schizophrenia to table manners, across a range of contexts, such as publishing, editorial and advertising, aimed at a predominantly adult audience.
‘Ideas are the most significant aspect of my work, feeding the entire process. My illustrations are a digitally organised composition of decorative features, such as intricate pencil drawings of inanimate objects (to anchor a concept) and the occasional collaged or photographed element, alongside large areas of flat colour, often within a symmetrical grid or pattern.
My conscience pushes me past purely aesthetic illustration, into creating work that holds meaning and can ultimately help people, such as raising awareness, changing attitudes or simply communicating a difficult subject more easily’.
